Adult Education

 

The French American School of Tampa Bay offers group lessons for adults interested in improving their speaking and writing skills or simply trying to keep up with their kids!

 

Group Classes

2024 - 2025 School Year

During the 2024 - 2025 school year, we are once again pleased to offer Adult French Education, with instruction by our FASTB teacher, Emmy Decker.  Our classes will be held online via Zoom for the spring semester of 2024.

Fall semester: One class per week for 13 weeks, beginning the week of September 9th and ending the week of December 16th.  Semester cost: $390 per person plus $60 for the class textbook and workbook. (unless already purchased)

Spring Semester: One class per week for 13 weeks, beginning January 20th, 2025, and ending the week of May 5th, 2025.  Semester cost: $390 per person plus $60 for the class textbook and workbook (unless already purchased).

Fall Semester Class schedule:

  • Tuesday 5pm - 6:30 pm - Beginner 2+: For those who have started French with me last year, or for new students who have had some experience with French (please email adulted@fastb.org to request a placement test).

  • Tuesday 6:30pm - 8 pm - Intermediate 2+: For those who have mastered the basics and want to improve their skills (complex sentence structures, vocabulary skills, conjugation..). For returning students, we will be going over Dossier 2 of our Alter Ego book 2.

  • Wednesday 4pm - 5:30 pm - True Beginner: For those starting their journey learning French!

The syllabus for each class emphasizes four important skills to be gained:
Oral Comprehension, Written Comprehension, 
Oral Expression and Written Expression

  • Grammatical points with explanations and application exercises
  • Vocabulary
  • Phonetics and repetition of different sounds
  • Conversation and practice of dialogues between the students
  • Cultural experience

Coming soon - French movie nights! Enjoy an evening filled with snacks, drinks and the opportunity to socialize in French and English. Plus, see a great French movie! All films will be in French with English subtitles.
