Family Picnic This Friday
|
|
We invite all of our enrolled families, and those seriously considering FASTB for either the Pre-K or Elementary classes, to join us for our first annual Family Picnic, this Friday from noon to 2pm, to be held appropriately in our picnic area in the shade. The food is on us, just come, enjoy and get to know others in our growing FASTB family a little better. To make sure we have enough for everyone, please RSVP by replying to this newsletter. Pre-K Starts October 15 – Accepting Applications Now
|
|
It’s all set up and ready to go! If you missed the News de Nous special report Monday, after needing a little extra time to satisfy county and state requirements, we are now ready to open our Pre-K class October 15 and we cannot wait! If you have been unsure, or just waiting for the opening, and haven’t contacted us, please do so and we can set up a time for you to visit, tour the building and meet our great teachers.

Chronicling Claire’s Class

Lots going on in Claire’s elementary class, from writing and math in the classroom and a little yoga mixed in as well!
|
|
|
|
Cursive writing (above), a lost art here in the U.S., is an important piece of the elementary curriculum in France. The benefits go beyond just the written word – as Claire points out, “Cursive writing is very good for developing motor skills, as well as focus and concentration.”
Differentiating the curriculum in a multi-age classroom is very important and works well in math, where students are at different levels in both the subject as well as their French. So older students can be learning multiplication, while younger students are learning French numbers to 40, all within the same activity, such as the one at left where students were making cubes for the game le jeu de l’oie (snakes and ladders), which also ties into the class theme of the month: Halloween.

For physical activity, in addition to recess, spôrt is part of the daily schedule and two times a week, the mats come out for some yoga. Starting with breathing and meditation, and then moving into basic poses, it’s also a chance to learn names of body parts in French – Claire doesn’t miss any opportunities to teach!
|
|
Overall, nearly one month into school, the students have adapted well to our environment and routines and Claire notes that the U.S. students, who had little or no French coming in, are making great strides and understanding the language more and more every day.

Openings for 2018-19 & Steps To Apply
|
|
|
|
We are continuing to enroll students for 2018-19, both in the elementary class and now the Pre-K class, so if you are thinking about applying, or know someone who may be interested in applying, you are not too late and below is the sequence of events for our application process:
|
|
- Inquiry: Submit the Application Inquiry Form on our web site and we will contact you to set up a school visit to give you more information about FASTB and answer questions
- Apply: Print, fill out and mail our Enrollment Application and fee
- Interview: After receiving the completed application we set up a parent or guardian and child interview to assess readiness and ability to benefit from our program
- Acceptance & Enrollment: Upon acceptance, an Enrollment Contract must be signed and deposit paid to secure a spot for the upcoming year
