News de Nous – 1/9/19

January 9, 2019
We’re Baaaack!
Bonne Année !! We hope everyone in our extended FASTB family had a wonderful holiday and new year. It’s great to be back and we’re right in the swing of things: this week’s News de Nous includes a preview of our Open House, a review of our Congressional visit, the launch of our Suzuki Music session and updates from the Pre-K & Elementary classes. Let’s catch up…
Open House – Tuesday, January 15 10:00am
We hope to see you all at our January 15th Open House, from 10-Noon. The timing provides an opportunity to see our classes in session and witness the immersion environment first-hand. Plus you’ll have a chance to meet teachers & parents, tour the school and ask as many questions as you’d like! Refreshments will be served.
Whether you are still thinking about this current year, or looking ahead to next year, we are happy to discuss either option with you. Please RSVP to admission@fastb.org. See you next Tuesday – Merci !
Congressional Oversight
We were very pleased to have Congressman Charlie Crist visit FASTB Monday along with two members of his staff. Congressman Crist toured the school and also spent some time observing and interacting with our Elementary class (left), as well a chatting with us about education in general, and our approach in particular, which he found to be an “innovative learning experience”.
Thank you to Congressman Crist for reaching out and visiting.

2019 Takes Shape in Pre-K
Priscilla’s Pre-K students celebrated the new year in song and working with shapes in their Montessori workshops – recognition first and then putting them in the right place
As always, there was a lot of enthusiasm when it came to donning the smock and wielding the brush. Come to think of it, there are very few things they are not enthusiastic about! Priscilla and Pauline wish all a happy 2019.
Elementary Class Has Heart
Claire’s Elementary class returned from break with lots of smiles and hugs – and Claire echoes Priscilla & Pauline in wishing you all a happy new year.
The class kicked off January working on primary and secondary colors as well as warm and cold colors, and the work in the above photo represents Kandinsky-inspired Heart Art. Elsewhere, students jumped back into math and they are progressing toward the end of their phonétique book. The new class poem for January is “La Nouvelle Année” and students began work on that by copying the text as a writing exercise.
Suzuki Music Underway
Tuesday marked day one of our introductory 6-week Suzuki Music session. Our instructor, Jennifer Diedrich, went over the different parts of the violin to help familiarize students with their new instrument.
Jennifer will contact parents about ways students can listen to Book One music at home to reinforce what is being learned in class and aid in practicing.
