News de Nous – 10/24/18

October 24, 2018
Going Up!
Bonjour! Lots going on this week in our Elementary and Pre-K classes (besides defying gravity!), especially in the art department, plus a video that will add a little drama to your typical News de Nous read – enjoy!
A Caterpillar in Claire’s Class
Claire’s class has been very busy this week, utilizing Eric Carle’s famous story and applying it to art, science, math and reading (and French). One would think from the photos at right and below, that the art piece might be the most fun, but Claire says the students have gotten a lot out of this approach in all subject areas!
Montessori-style activities are also a part of each day (below left & right), as students tap into their creativity with various individualized modules.
FASTB Transformation
Our Founders, Elizabeth & Willy LeBihan, have a vision: a school where children become bilingual through French Immersion, in a beautiful, caring environment. An important part of that vision became reality this past summer with the complete renovation of our building at 2100 62nd Avenue North in St. Petersburg. This video captures the dramatic makeover that allowed us to open our doors this fall. For best results, view full screen, sound full :).
FASTB: The Transformation
Special thanks go to Scott Ferris & John Retsos and the whole team at Axis One Construction and architect Alex Rios for doing so much in such a condensed period of time! Aerial video courtesy of Beth Cullen at Melon Sky Media.
The Artist’s Touch In Pre-K
No shortage of Halloween spirit in Priscilla’s Pre-K class – just blink your eyes and something new is up on the wall!
To the right, creativity with leaves, a baggie and a pair of eyes and, voila – an owl! And he fits right in when it comes to taking a nap during the day.
Priscilla and Pauline also incorporate a lot of singing into their activities – en français of course – all part of the natural absorption of the language.
Suzuki Follow Up
Some of you were able to speak with Jennifer Diedrich, our Suzuki music instructor, last Thursday at drop-off time, and some were not able to stay – either way, please feel free to contact Jennifer directly to ask questions or to discuss moving forward with private piano or violin lessons during the school day.
Jennifer’s contact information is on the document at left, which she handed out at the session and it delves a little deeper into the Suzuki method. Merci!
One Week to the Halloween Parade
Next Wednesday is October 31 and it is Halloween Parade day! The Parade will begin at 2pm and all families are welcome. We will have more details for you in the next couple of days.
