News de Nous – 12/19/18

December 19, 2018
‘Tis The Season…
Bonjour – A pretty jolly final week before the winter break here at FASTB: Pre-K and Elementary students have been hard at work in the classroom, but also excited to perform at our Holiday Fête, and we’re excited that January will bring plenty of action at FASTB as we kick off two new programs and host the first of our two winter Open Houses. News de Nous has all the details below…
Friday Fête
We hope to see parents and families join us for our pre-pick up Holiday Fête this Friday at 2:15. Our undercover investigative team was able to confirm through various unnamed sources that yes, there will be a performance from each class! All the more reason to attend, plus there will be lots of tasty treats to enjoy as well. See you then!!

2019 Open House Dates
We’re ringing in the new year with two FASTB Open House dates: a morning edition on January 15 from 10 to Noon; and an evening session on February 7 from 6 to 8.
There are advantages to both – the January 15th Open House, however, provides an opportunity to see our classes in session and witness the immersion environment first-hand. We hope you can join us and feel free to bring a friend.
Whether you are still thinking about this current year, or looking ahead to next year, we are happy to discuss either option with you. Refreshments will be served – you can RSVP to admission@fastb.org. Merci !
A Tip of the Chapeau in Pre-K
Priscilla’s Pre-K students are identifying first letters with certain objects, like that fancy hat, or Chapeau, in the photo above, all continuing to build vocabulary – and have fun at the same time!
In the Montessori-style independent activity areas, we see small, medium and large bins with corresponding objects (below left). Differentiating sizes is not easy at first, but that smile on the right says, “Je sais où ça va !” (“I know where this goes”)
Elementary On The Move
Before a yoga session Monday, Claire put together a motor skills course (left) in which students had to maneuver around cones, while dribbling a ball and, preferably, not running into each other (it was a crash-free session!).
In class, independent work focused on math and writing: recognizing and writing numbers in groupings of tens and hundreds, while, at the same time, working on cursive writing. Students have also advanced to be able to independently do their phonology and vocabulary lessons.
In art, Claire introduced them Pablo Picasso’s “The Dove of Peace” (below), which was the emblem of the First International Peace Conference in Paris in 1949.
New Year = New Enrichment
The winter break is a great chance for parents of our first Suzuki Music students to head over to Violin Shop Tampa to get your child fitted for a rental violin. You can call 813-288-8215 and ask for Derek or Ethan – let them know your children are students of Jennifer Diedrich and they will get you all set up. Our first 6-week small group session begins the day after we return from break – January 8th!
Our second new program in 2019 comes from the Music & Me family – yoga with Anne Vaurie (right), who will be joining us Wednesday mornings to conduct sessions with students. Welcome Anne!
Speaking of Music & Me, today we received the books and CD’s that accompany Alex’s music sessions and students will be bringing these home as a way to keep reinforcing the songs and activities Alex does in
his class. Our teachers also have the CD’s and can incorporate some of the music on days when Alex is not there.
Openings for 2018-19 & Beyond: Steps To Apply
As we continue to enroll students for 2018-19, and also look ahead to 2019-20, if you are thinking about applying (or know someone who may be interested), please consider a visit and tour – we’ve had a lot lately! Below is the sequence of events for our application process:
  1. Inquiry: Submit the Application Inquiry Form on our web site and we will contact you to set up a school visit to give you more information about FASTB and answer questions
  2. Apply: Print, fill out and mail our Enrollment Application and fee
  3. Interview: After receiving the completed application we set up a parent or guardian and child interview to assess readiness and ability to benefit from our program
  4. Acceptance & Enrollment: Upon acceptance, an Enrollment Contract must be signed and deposit paid to secure a spot for the upcoming year
Please visit FASTB.org and click on the Admission tab for more on the process, tuition, financial aid and more – we look forward to hearing from you!
FASTB Calendar 2018-19
Click on the calendar to the right to get our updated schedule for the school year. Please also check the Events tab on FASTB.org periodically for more specific information on certain events.
We will also be releasing the 2019-20 calendar soon. As many of you know, our calendar this year was impacted by the summer building construction. Next year, the school year will align with all the area private & public schools.
