FASTB In Focus !
Bonjour ! A variety of lenses are aimed at FASTB in May – last Friday, local television station, WTVT Fox 13, visited and ran a story on our school and next week, we have our school photo day. Details on both headline this week’s News de Nous.
Plus, our Suzuki musicians wrap up a great first year with their final performance, 2019-20 enrollment & scholarship news, classroom updates and much, much more…
TV Time For FASTB
We welcomed reporter Evan Axelbank and his Fox 13 TV crew to FASTB last Friday and they put together a very nice piece on the school that aired on the 10:00 news. Evan visited with parents, captured some classroom activity and spoke with FASTB Head of School, Willy LeBihan (above).
Here is a link to the story and video – thank you to all who participated and to Evan & Fox 13 for the terrific coverage!
Smile – End of Year Photo Day is May 21
Tuesday, May 21st, is picture day at FASTB as we have enlisted the services of Moorman Photographics for a morning of individual and group photos. They will be set up and ready to go at 9:00 and we ask that students arrive at school ready to be photographed. Individual photos will be made available for purchase – we will have more details on how and where to order them next week.
Suzuki Grand Finale
The final bow of the school year is tomorrow for our Suzuki musicians, as they wrap up with their year-end performance at 2:15. They have worked hard and progressed well these last 4 months – all FASTB families and guests are welcome to attend to cheer them on.
As an added bonus, we will have two of Jenny Diedrich’s private studio students also joining us tomorrow, providing some inspiration and a peek at what is to come next year for our violinists. À demain !

Florida Scholarships for K-12 – Apply Today
FASTB has been given the “all clear” to accept Florida state scholarships in 2019-20. As we reported last week, there is now a second income based scholarship offered by the state of Florida: the Family Empowerment Scholarship, which will also be administered by Step Up for Students. Key points for this scholarship are:
  1. For students currently in public schools OR students entering Kindergarten
  2. Income thresholds are higher than those in the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship
If you meet the criteria in the first item above, it is definitely worth filling out the free online application to see if you qualify.
This brings the number of scholarships that we will accept in 2019-20 to five:
  1. Florida Tax Credit
  2. Family Empowerment
  3. McKay
  4. Gardiner
  5. Hope
It is very important that you apply now if you want one of these scholarships – the way it works is that your free application is reviewed and the scholarship is awarded before you choose a school, so you can get started right away. Here are the links:

Elementary Class Mixing It Up
In our elementary class’ Découverte du Monde lessons this week, students experimented with different substances to see which did or did not mix with water. Among those tested were salt, sugar, sand, apple juice, coffee (that’swhere the coffee went!), dirt and oil. They were really into it, and recorded their observations of each mixture.
The written word was also big this week, as students began work on their final poem of the year, C’est l’été, or It’s Summer (above), and toward the end of last week, finished up their Mother’s Day cards (below) with beautiful cursive writing on display in both projects. Bravo !
Pre-K Plans Mother’s Day Surprise – It Works!
We could have shown you some of this last week but that would have ruined the surprise! Like their older schoolmates, our Preschool students were also hard at work getting ready for Mother’s Day, putting a lot of care and effort into their cards (above) and also the jars that they gave their moms (below). Little messages inside the jars were guaranteed to bring smiles and warm hearts, and they did.
We hope all of our families enjoyed their Mother’s Day celebrations this weekend!
Attention Adults – French Classes Are Coming To FASTB!
We are excited to announce that French classes for adults will be coming soon to FASTB – we have to finish working out a few details and once that is done, there will be a sign-up on our website for those interested! Stay tuned…
Attention High School French Scholars
We are also pleased to announce that, beginning this fall, we will be offering after school advanced French classes for high school students, who wish to pursue a greater proficiency in the language. The Diplôme d’Etudes de Langue Française (DELF) is a certification of French language abilities for non-native speakers, administered by the International Centre for French Studies for the French Ministry of Education.
The program includes six different units (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2), with each leading to an exam and, if passed, a French diploma. The last levels of the program can give access to French universities without having to take another proficiency test before enrolling. US colleges also recognize the value of these diplomas and they are also be very valuable professionally as proof of fluency in French.
If you or someone you know might be interested in this program, please contact the school. You can click on the photo above, or here, to view the brochure pdf. Merci !
