News de Nous – Opening Day 2020-21

August 28, 2020
We’re Back !
A day 5 1/2 months in the making, FASTB once again opened its doors to welcome students for the 2020-21 school year – and a great one it was! In this special News de Nous, lots of photos below to give you a flavor of the day, plus a recap of two of events this week that helped get us ready for day one, and some enrollment news too. Let the scrolling begin…
Jour d’ouverture 2020-21 !
You could not miss the COVID precautions in place today – masks, spacing, hand washing and more – but you also couldn’t miss the joy of both our students and our teachers, finally coming together after all of these months. Pedagogical Coordinator Olivier Guilhem (above) immediately engaged his elementary class students in French conversation, while new preschool teacher, Cécile Rocher (below) captivated her students with a T’choupi story.
Middle schoolers (above) and first graders (below) also jumped back into the classroom routine…
But classroom time was only part of the story as students ventured outside for physical education class (above), to scale new heights (below), and…
…to eat lunch at our shaded picnic area (below).
As for our safety precautions, students had their temperature taken upon arrival (left) and also at midday, practiced good distancing, wore face coverings and learned & practiced proper hand washing techniques (below). Our small numbers provide an opportunity to employ all of our safety measures, which, with the help & support of our families, give us a great opportunity to keep our FASTB community safe.
We also made room in the day for a properly distanced and mask-less opening day photo op for our families – a sampling below.
Thank you to our families, our students and our teachers & staff for making this day possible – well done everyone! 179 days to go!
Picnic Areas, Parades & Protocols
In addition to the usual preparation that goes into opening day, we enjoyed a couple of special events this past week which symbolized two big themes for this school year: safety and community.
Sunday morning, our FASTB medical advisor, Dr. Gaetane Michaud (above left), met with parents to share her front line experience with COVID-19 in New York City, discuss mitigation practices that work and fend off the virus, and stress the importance of everyone in our FASTB community participating in our efforts to be safe.
Very valuable information from an expert in her field – and a fellow parent, who has been most generous with her time and input as our school advisor. Merci, Dr. Michaud !!
Then on Wednesday, our parking lot parade gave us all a chance to see one another in person – for some, it was a long overdue reunion and for others, a first time encounter. A nice community event and a brief preview of today’s real deal!
Enrollment 2020-21 – Slots Still Available
As mentioned above, we are a small school that is adaptable in this ever-changing COVID-19 world. If you think FASTB might be a good fit for your child and you would like to learn more about our unique school, please contact us – we have slots available for this 2020-21 school year. As always, feel free to visit our Admissions page and website to explore what we have to offer – a French immersion and multicultural educational environment that is the only one of its kind in this region.
